Douglas Fir The Douglas Fir has been a popular Christmas tree in California since the 1920's. Whenever a customer comes in asking for an "old fashioned" Christmas tree, they are usually speaking about a natural Douglas Fir. Most Douglas, Noble and Grand Fir sold today are farmed trees. The needles are dark green or blue green, soft to the touch, and have a sweet fragrance when crushed. Noble Fir
With a beautiful, almost spruce like appearance,
Noble Fir has soft blue-green needles on evenly spaced strong branches
perfect for heavy ornaments. They keep really well and have a very
pleasant mild fir scent. When one thinks of the traditional Christmas
tree, this is it. The beautiful shape, stiff branches and long keep
ability have made the Noble Fir the most popular Christmas tree in the
Southern California Area for many years. It is a dark green with blue
silver tint and has a fuller shape. Its needles are about 1" long and
twist upward so that the lower surface of the branches is exposed. It is
native to Northern California and the Cascade and Coastal ranges of
Oregon and Washington. |

Grand Fir The grand fir is easily distinguished from other Pacific Northwest firs by its sprays of lustrous needles in two distinct rows. They are usually horizontally spread so that both the upper and lower sides of the branches are clearly visible. The needles are 1 to 1 1/2 inches long with glossy dark green tops and two highly visible white lines of stomata on the undersides. And the Scent is incredible! It has a powerful citrus-like evergreen aroma and is, by far, the most fragrant Christmas tree. Crush just a few needles between your fingers to get a sample of that powerful aroma. It is a beautiful and dramatic tree, especially if flocked.
